Masala idli

Masala idli is the simple and quick recipe. Give some leftover idlis a new life by following this recipe. Just chop the idlis into smaller pieces, throw in some oil, some herbs, and some spices to make this mouth watering snack. A healthy option for breakfast or snack.

Masala idli

Ingredients :

  • 8 left over idlis
  • 1 onion (finely sliced)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • 10-12 curry leaves (kari patta)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder (dhaniya powder)
  • 1 tsp sambhar masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Method :

  • Heat oil in a wok or kadai. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
  • Now add onions and saute till they become translucent.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, finely chopped green chili, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, sambhar masala and mix well.
  • Saute till the oil separates from masala while stirring occasionally.
  • In the mean time cut the each idli into four parts. Now add them to masala and mix well.
  • Make sure the masala coats the idlis well. Switch off the flame.
  • Your masala idli is ready to be served as breakfast or snacks.
