Namak Para | Namak Pare Recipe

Namak para is a crunchy and salted snack. It brings back lot of memories from my childhood. My mother use to prepare namak paras when the Holi festival is near by. I have learnt this recipe from her and today I am sharing the same recipe.

Ingredients :

• 1 cup All Purpose Flour (maida)
• 1/2 tsp Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
• 3 tbsp Clarified Butter (Ghee)/Oil
• 1/4 tsp Soda-Bi-Carb
• Salt to taste
• 1/4 cup Warm Water
• Oil for deep frying

Method :

  • In a wide bowl mix flour, salt, ghee/oil, ajwain and rub until ghee is mixed well with flour.
  • Add water in small quantity to form a stiff dough.
  • In the meantime heat oil for deep-frying at medium to high heat.
  • Divide dough in 2-3 portion and make smooth balls and grease with oil, also grease the rolling surface and the rolling pin with little oil so doesn’t have to dust with flour.
  • Take one ball of dough and roll it into a circle.
  • Using a sharp knife cut rolled dough in diamond shape. Repeat same for remaining dough.
  • Drop handful carefully in oil and fry until golden brown in slow to medium heat so it can cook properly.
  • Once done take them out on absorbent paper with the help of strainer and allow to cool.
  • Serve namak pare / namak para at room temperature and store in air tight containers.
