Dabeli Recipe | How to make Kutchi Dabeli


Dabeli is a famous street food from Gujarat. It is a spicy snack made by mixing boiled potatoes with a dabeli masala, and putting the mixture between pav or burger bun. Dabeli is served with chutneys made from tamarind, date, garlic, red chilies, etc. and garnished with pomegranate and roasted peanuts. 


Ingredients :

  • 4 pavs
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dabeli masala powder
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup sweet date and tamarind chutney
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup masala moongfali
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup red chili garlic chutney
  • 1 medium (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp butter

Method :

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add potatoes, salt to taste and a little water. Mix well.
  • Add dabeli masala, lemon juice, half cup sweet tamarind chutney and sugar. Mix and cook till the moisture is absorbed.
  • Transfer the mixture into a plate and spread it. Sprinkle masala moongfali, pomegranate, coriander leaves over the top.
  • Slit the pavs horizontally without cutting through.
  • Spread red chili garlic chutney, a layer of the stuffing, sweet date and tamarind chutney and onion in between the two halves.
  • Place the stuffed pavs on a hot tawa. Press slightly and toast on both side with a little butter till done.
  • Dabeli is ready to be served with chutney.
