Kadai Chicken (Chicken Curry) Recipe

Kadai Chicken. Kadai chicken is North Indian dish which is very popular because of its spicy taste. In this chicken is cooked in onion and tomato based gravy with lots of spices and capsicum. Lets start with the recipe.

Ingredients :

  • 500 gms Chicken
  • 1 Capsicum (Finely sliced)
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 3 Red Chili (Dry)
  • 2 Tejpatta
  • 4 Black Peppercorn (Kali Mirch)
  • 1 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 10-12 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Onions (finely chopped)
  • 3 Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Method :

  • Wash the chicken thoroughly and keep aside. Ground the tomatoes to a smooth paste.
  • Dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds and black peppercorns and grind to a coarse powder.
  • Grind red chilies, ginger and garlic to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add tejpatta, finely sliced capsicum and stir fry for half a minute.
  • Add onion and sauté till lightly browned.
  • Add half the coarsely ground spice powder and red chilli-ginger-garlic paste and continue
    to sauté for three to four minutes.
  • Add freshly made tomato puree, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt and cook till the oil separates from masala.
  • Add chicken and stir for a minute.
  • Add coriander leaves and the remaining coarsely ground spice powder and mix well.
  • Add half a cup of water and stir. Cover and cook on medium heat till the chicken is done
  • Serve kadai chicken hot with steamed rice, naan or tandoori roti.
