Urad Chana dal, by its name only you guys must be getting a hint that it is a combination of chana and urad dal cooked in spicy masala.

Ingredients :
- 3/4 cup Chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 1/4 cup Chilke wali Urad Dal (split Black gram)
- 1/2 tsp finely chopped Ginger
- 1 Onion
- 2 medium Tomato
- 7-8 Garlic cloves (Finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder
- 1 Green Chilli (Finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
- a pinch of Asafoetida (Heeng)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp Ghee or Oil (but I prefer ghee)
Method :
- Wash both the dals together. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes in 3 cups of water.
- Drain and pressure cook dal with salt to taste, finely chopped ginger, pinch of heeng in 3 cups of water upto 5 whistles.
- When the pressure is released, mix the dal well with the help of ladle.
- Heat ghee in a kadai, add cumin seeds.
- When the cumin seeds start crackle, add finely chopped garlic and fry till the raw aroma disappears.
- Add onion, green chilli and cook for 2 minutes.
- Now add finely chopped tomato, turmeric powder, salt to taste, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cook well till the oil separates from masala.
- Add boiled dal and cook on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes. If the dal is thick add sufficient amount of water and cook on low flame.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with chapattis or missi roti.
