Tandoori missi roti

Tandoori missi roti – an Indian flat bread served with rajmas, chholey or any curry that you like.

Missi roti or Indian flat bread made with whole wheat flour/atta, gram flour and spices. In north India you will find missi roti in every restaurant and dhaba. Whenever my husband want to have food from outside or goes out he will order missi roti. He is very fond of missi roti and tandoori roti. So I often prepare missi roti for him at home. If you want to have restaurant style tandoori missi roti at home, try this recipe and enjoy it with chana urad dal, rajma or any curry.

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup gram flour /besan
  • 1 cup wheat flour /atta
  • 1/3 tsp Turmeric /haldi
  • 1/2 tsp Chili powder/mirch
  • 3 tbsp fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1 and half tbsp ghee or butter
  • Salt- to taste

Method :

  • Add wheat flour, gram flour in a wide mixing bowl.
  • Now add salt, ghee and all the spices.
  • Now add water and make a medium dough.
  • Cover and rest for 5 minutes. Make equal sized balls from the dough.
  • Dust the ball with wheat flour and roll to make a medium thick roti.
  • On the top side, brush with little water.Repeat the process for other rotis too.
  • Heat a tawa, once the tawa is hot, carefully transfer a roti so that the water surface touches the tawa. Allow it to cook for a minute, as bubbles start to come, carefully flip the dosa tawa upside down as keeping keep flame in high. Cook until the rotis are charred a bit. Rotate the tawa for even cooking. It will start to fall down, you can hold it with a tong.
  • Brush it with ghee or butter.
  • Serve tandoori missi roti with chana urad dal or rajma.
