Poached Egg in Tomato Gravy (Curry Recipe)

Poached egg

Today I am sharing the recipe of poached eggs in tomato gravy. I have learned this recipe from one of my friend’s mother. Very simple and easy to cook recipe. It goes well with roti, rice or parathans.

Ingredients :

  • 3 Eggs 
  • 2 medium Onions (Finely sliced) 
  • 3 Tomatoes (Finely chopped) 
  • 3-4 Garlic Cloves (Finely chopped) 
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Ketchup 
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds 
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder 
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder 
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder 
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala powder 
  • Salt to taste 
  • 2 tbsp Oil 
  • Fresh Coriander leaves for garnishing 

Method :

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds.
  • When cumin seeds starts crackling add chopped garlic and saute till the raw aroma disappears.
  • Now add finely sliced onion and saute till they become translucent.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt to taste and cook till the oil separates from masala.
  • Add tomato ketchup and mix well.  Add one cup of water and bring it to boil.
  • Now one by one crack the eggs and slowly drop into the mixture. Do not stir. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Turn the heat off. Sprinkle with garam masala, cover and let it rest for a minute.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
