Dal ka Paratha

Dal paratha are very common in north Indian kitchens. I have seen my mother, mother-in-law use to kneed the dough with the leftover dal to make dal paratha (in this way the dal is also used ). Most of the kids who do not eat dal, mothers can give them these dal paratha.


Ingredients :

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup cooked Dal (whichever dal is left in the dinner)
  • 1 Onion (Finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Coriander Leaves (Finely chopped)
  • 2 Green Chilies (Finely chopped)
  • Salt to taste Ghee

Method :

  • Knead the whole wheat flour with the leftover dal, onion, coriander leaves, green chilies, and salt to taste. Add water if required. You may not need to add the water if the leftover dal has enough water and is not dry.
  • Knead into a soft dough just like the dough for chapatis, cover with a muslin cloth and keep aside for 15 minutes. Divide the dough into equal portions.
  • Roll out each portion of the dough into small round with the help of the plain flour.
  • Apply ghee on the surface of the rolled paratha.
  • Fold the paratha lengthwise twice.
  • Again apply ghee on the surface and again fold it twice.
  • Now roll out the parathas with the help of plain flour.
  • Heat a tava, put the paratha on the tava. When partly cooked on one side, flip the paratha.
  • Apply ghee on the partly cooked side, in the meantime the other side is also getting cooked.
  • Flip again and apply ghee on the other side. Cook till both the side are done properly.
  • Serve hot with your favourite pickle or butter.
