Lahoori Aloo

Lahoori Aloo – Potatoes are cooked in yogurt and spices.

My son is very fond of potatoes (aloo) so I try different ways to prepare aloo. One day I was going through a magazine where I read about lahoori aloo. I find it easy and yummy, yesterday I tried that recipe of lahoori aloo which my son loved it.

Lahoori Aloo

A simple yet delicious recipe to serve with parathas or puri. In this aloos are cooked in yogurt and spices, you will love the tangy flavour of it.  Basically baby potatoes are used to prepare lahoori aloo but as there was no baby patotoes avialable at home I tried to make lahoori aloo with the usual potatoes.

Ingredients :

  • 500 gms baby potatoes, boiled (or 3 large potatoes boiled and cut into cubes)
  • 2 onions (finely sliced)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 6-7 garlic cloves (lahsun)
  • 1 inch ginger (adrak)
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp yogurt (dahi)
  • salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp oil

Method :

  • Make a paste of garlic, ginger and green chilies and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, fry 1/4th onion and once they are golden brown take them out on a absorbent paper and keep aside.
  • Now in the remaining oil add cumin seeds, when they starts crackling add sliced onions and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add ginger garlic green chili paste and saute till the raw aroma disappears.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala and mix well.
  • Add yogurt and mix. After mixing add salt to taste and stir.
  • Now add potatoes, 1/4 cup water and mix. Cover and cook till dry.
  • Garnish with fried onions and serve hot with parathas or puri.
