Aloo matar pulao

Aloo matar pulao is a very simple yet a delicious meal. Main ingredients of the recipe are basmati rice, green peas(matar) and potatos (aloo). I usually prepare aloo matar pulao on weekends with veg curry or onion-tomato raita. If you want you can add some more vegetables like carrot, beans etc.

Aloo matar pulao

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup basmati rice (washed and soaked for 1/2 an hour)
  • 1/2 cup green peas (matar)
  • 1/2 cup potatoes (peeled and cut into cubes)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Method :

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and when they start crackling add finely chopped onion.
  • Saute till they become translucent. Now add chopped tomatoes, green peas, potatoes and mix well.
  • Saute for 1 minute, then add turmeric powder, garam masala, salt to taste and rice along with water and mix well.
  • Cover and pressure cook for 2 whistles on high flame.
  • Turn off the flame. Let the pressure be released on its own.
  • Fluff the rice and serve hot aloo matar pulao with onion-tomato raita or any curry.
