Moong Dal Khichdi

For mothers it is very difficult and confusing what food or in simple way which recipes to add in her baby’s diet when she first start thinking of introducing solid food. Moong dal khichdi is answer to one of those questions. In future posts I will add some more recipes in this concern. Moong dal khichdi is very simple and easy to cook though it is very healthy and delicious dish.

Ingredients :

  • 1/4 cup basmati rice tukda
  • 1/4 cup moong dal (dhuli)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Method :

  • Wash and soak moong dal and rice together in 2 cups of water for 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat 1/2 tbsp ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin, asafoetida.
  • When cumin starts crackling. Drain water from moong dal and rice. Add moong dal and rice in pressure cooker.
  • Add 2 and half cups of water, turmeric powder, salt to taste and mix well and pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles.
  • Once the pressure is released, add 1 tbsp of ghee and mix well.
  • Mash the khichdi completely to a smooth consistency.
  • Serve lukewarm.
