Eggless chocolate mousse – a simple and quick recipe to prepare but it takes time to set. A mousse is a prepared food that incorporates air bubbles to give it a light and airy texture. There are many variations of mousse and one of them is chocolate mousse.

To give the airy texture we incorporates eggs to the mousse mixture or whipped cream to it. When mousse is made with eggs it is light and fluffy and when it is made with whipped cream it is little bit heavy and thick.

I am sharing the eggless chocolate mousse, a simple and quick recipe. A pure vegetarian recipe means a recipe without egg and gelatin. Lets start with the step by step instructions

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup roughly chopped dark chocolate
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup beaten whipped cream
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence

Method :

  • Boil water and sugar in a pan over medium flame. Once the sugar is melted keep aside.
  • Place chocolate in a large bowl and using the double boiler method melt the chocolate or microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  • Remove from microwave and mix well until no lumps remain.
  • Now combine the sugar mixture to chocolate and mix well. Let the mixture cool down to room temperature.
  • Meanwhile whip the cream using hand mixer or stand mixer with whisk attachment till soft peaks form.
  • Take a portion of whipped cream aside for garnishing. Now from the remaining whipped gently fold half of the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until combined, then the remaining whipped cream until combined and smooth.
  • Divide into serving cups and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or till the mousse sets.
  • Top each cup with a scoop of whipped cream(or using piping bag) and garnish with chocolate and serve chilled.
