Beetroot Halwa Recipe

Beetroot halwa is a tasty Indian desert. It is prepared from grated beetroot simmered in milk in the similar way like gajar ka halwa.

Ingredients :

  • 2 cup grated Beetroot
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 2 tsp sliced Almonds (Badam)
  • 1 tsp Kaju (Cashewnuts)
  • 1 tsp Kismis (Raisin)

Method:

  • Peel, wash and grate beetroots.
  • In a heavy bottomed pan, heat a tablespoon of ghee and roast the cashewnuts, remove and keep aside.
  • Now heat the remaining ghee add grated beetroots and stir for 5 minutes.
  • To this add the milk and allow the mixture to come to boil.
  • On low flame cook the beetroot in milk until all the milk gets absorbed while continuously stirring.
  • Add cream, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add sugar and cook for another 5 minutes or till the water evaporates
  • Add cardamom powder, fried cashewnuts, raisins and mix well. Cook until halwa is totally dry and starts to leave ghee.
  • Garnish with almonds and serve hot.
