Badam Milk

Badam is the Hindi word for Almonds. Badam milk is a traditional and delicious drink that can be served hot or cold at any time of the year. Almonds are rich in calcium, iron, and has medicinal values (it is considered very good for health). When you mix it with the nutritional qualities of milk, it translates into a very healthy drink.

Milk with blend of nuts and flavored with saffron gives a drink for summers (if served chilled) and winters (if served hot). It is a personal favorite of  both my son and husband (they both like it cold though).

Prep Time : 5-10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Almonds (Badam)
  • 1/2 cup Pista
  • a pinch of Cardamom powder
  • a pinch of Fennel (Saunf) powder
  • Few threads of Saffron
  • 4-5 tbsp Sugar
  • 4 cups Milk

Method:

  • Soak badam and pista in hot water for 1/2 an hour.
  • Keep it aside. Take out the skin of the almonds and pista and finely chop them into slices.
  • Soak saffron in 3 tbsp of milk.
  • Boil 4 cups of milk in a heavy bottomed pan and bring to boil. Add finely chopped almonds and pista and simmer on low flame of fifteen to twenty minutes.
  • Add cardamom powder, saffron milk and fennel powder and continue to boil for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, add sugar and stir.
  • Serve warm in winters and chilled in summers.
