Tamatar Muli ki Chutney

This chutney is not very common. This recipe has been handed down from my nani to my mother and from my mother to me. Since my husband is very fond of chutneys, this recipe comes in handy in serving him a variety. Needless to say it has become one of his favourites. So enjoy this rare chutney.

Ingredients :

• 4 tbsp Oil
• 5-6 Dried Red Chilies
• 1 tbsp Urad Dal
• 1 Muli (Reddish) (Peeled and diced)
• 3-4 Tamatar (Tomato)
• 1 tsp Vinegar
• 1 tsp Tamarind Pulp
• 1/2 roasted Sesame seeds
• Salt to taste
• Pinch of Mustard seeds (Rai)
• 1 tsp Sugar
• 1/4 tsp Heeng (Asafoetida)

Method :

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add red chilies, urad dal and fry till they are golden brown.
  • Now add sesame seeds, muli and cook till the muli becomes soft.
  • Add tamatar, vinegar, tamarind pulp, salt to taste and mix well.
  • Cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
  • Now heat the remaining oil in different pan, add asafoetida and mustard seeds.
  • When mustard seeds start crackling, add this tadka to the muli mixture.
  • Let the mixture comes at room temperature and then grind.
  • Your chutney is ready to serve.
